Welcome to the on-line HQ for Burr for NC House!

Thank you for visiting my website and for allowing me to serve you in Raleigh.

The General Assembly of 1893 adopted the Latin words “Esse Quam Videri” as the State’s motto. The words “Esse Quam Videri” mean “to be rather than to seem.” As your state legislator for the past six years I have done exactly that, to be rather than to seem.  I have stood up and stood out as an effective and conservative leader of the General Assembly, and have proven my abilities time and time again as that.

In my first term, at the age of 23, I went to Raleigh, and on the first day as a member of the House of Representatives I was elected to serve as the House Republican Freshman Leader, representing the 12 Freshman House Republican Members in the House Leadership. I was successful at standing out as a leader and at the end of my fiIMG_1087rst term, the district agreed in November of 2010 and sent me back to Raleigh for a second term with more than 75% of the vote.

During that same election, my caucus and the Senate Republican Caucus, along with many other conservatives around the state worked tirelessly to secure a majority of seats in the legislature. We were tired of the Democrat Majority’s job killing policies of more regulations and higher taxes. A majority of North Carolinians agreed and elected a Republican Majority to the House and Senate for the first time since the late 1800’s. As a member of the House’s campaign committee, I was thrilled with our success and ready to go to work the next day to prepare to take the majority.

We went to work and I served as a key member of the House transition for two months preparing for the Republican Majority to be ready to go to work on day one. We weJustin speaking at General Assemblyre prepared and when we took the majority in January, Speaker of the House Thom Tillis appointed me to serve in a number of key positions, including Chairman of the Appropriations Sub-Committee on Health and Human Services and Vice-Chairman of the Appropriations Committee.

In November of 2012 the new 67th District sent me back to Raleigh for a third term with 63% of the vote. Republicans gained a super-majority in both chambers and Republican Pat McCrory was elected governor. Speaker Tillis promoted me to serve as Chairman of the Appropriations Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Rules, Calendar and Operations of the House Committee, the two most powerful committees in the House of Representatives. In 2013 we passed a balanced budget that responsibly invested your tax-dollars, passed a historic tax reform package that lowered the personal and corporate tax rates and eliminated the death tax, rejected the expansion of Obamacare in North Carolina, passed a drug-testing requirement for welfare recipients, and dramatically expanded your right to carry in North Carolina.

In 2015, with the election of Speaker Thom Tillis to the U.S. Senate, the House Republican caucus elected a new Speaker. Unfortunately the establishment candidate for speaker won the caucus election by one vote. When the newly elected speaker began backtracking on our commitment to the voters, I was a part of a conservative coalition in the House that stood-up and took action to keep our commitment to the voters. We successfully blocked hundreds-of-millions in wasteful spending, pork projects, and corporate welfare subsidies. Your tax dollars should be spent only on the core functions of government such as education, public safety or transportation, otherwise your tax dollars should be returned to you, the taxpayers. I am working tirelessly to keep Raleigh from turning into a mini-Washington D.C. and I will continue to make sure we continue building on the accomplishments from the 2011 and 2013 sessions.

Now with nearly eight years under my belt as your Representative, I believe I have done exactly what I told our community I would do when you originally sent me to Raleigh in 2008; give us a louder voice in the General Assembly and stand out as a conservative leader of North Carolina. I have a proven record of accomplishments and I hope you will take a moment to browse my campaign site to see those accomplishments; from holding key leadership positions to being named a 2011, 2013 and 2015 Defender of Liberty by the American Conservative Union.

We cannot allow a liberal Republican or Democrat to take our seat and return our state back to the days of higher taxes, bloated budgets, more regulations, and liberal policies. We’ve come too far to turn our seat over to those who won’t take a stand for our conservative values.

I hope you will allow me the privilege of a fifth term to continue fighting for our community, standing up for our conservative values and being a part of the conservative majority in the legislature.

Esse Quam Videri.
